Race Rules & Info Explained
Many people may gloss over the ‘fine-print’ when taking part in races, so we thought it would be useful to unpack a few rules and info to help prepare you.
New to this and not sure where everything goes on race day? Here’s a quick guide!
✅ Your ASA license comes in a set of two – one for the front and one for the back of your club top. These must be sewn or pinned on and displayed at all races.
✅ Many races also issue a race bib with your number. This must be pinned to the front of your shirt.
NB! The top section of your ASA license (with the WPA & ASA logos) must be clearly visible, both front and back.
✅ On the front, pin your race bib below the logos.
✅ On the back, make sure the ASA license sits low enough that your hydration vest (if you wear one) doesn’t cover the top part.
Let’s look sharp and keep compliant out there!
When entering races online, please double-check your club name!
We are Century City Athletic Club (sometimes listed as Century City AC).
We are not “21 Century AC” or anything else.
If you select the wrong club, your results will be listed under the wrong name, making it tough for us to track and celebrate your achievement.
Let’s make sure we get you the recognition you deserve, always double-check!
With league race attendance being especially important, here is some info about races that do manual timing and results capturing.
Not all races use timing chips! 🏃♂️🏃♀️
For some running and walking events, you’ll be given a small card instead of a bib style number with a chip. Fill it out clearly with all your details – including your license number and club name – and keep it on you during the run.
At the finish, you’ll get a plastic sleeve with your position number. Pop your completed card into the sleeve and hand it in – either on the results board or in the box provided at the finishing area.
No card = no result. Think of it like parkrun!
You may have heard a few people mention club colours at races and we wanted to share the guidelines for our club.
First, some context. When we registered our club with ASA, we didn’t just register a name, we registered a brand. That brand is proudly represented by our official colours: gold and black tops with black bottoms (shorts, tights etc.).
Wearing the correct club colours at races isn’t just about looking good 😌, it’s part of our identity and it’s especially important if you’re going for a podium finish. What that means is wearing our club t-shirt or vest and black bottoms as part of our full club kit.
Proudly black and gold all the way!
In road races organized under Athletics South Africa (ASA) and Western Province Athletics (WPA) rules, the use of headphones or music players is generally prohibited for safety reasons. Violating this rule may lead to disqualification.
Always familiarize yourself with the race rules and fine print before hitting the start line.
We get it – some races give awesome shirts and it’s tempting to wear them on the day. But here’s what you need to know:
Under ASA and WPA rules, it’s highly recommended (but not strictly mandatory) to wear your official club tops at races. (If you want to count towards team prizes, then wearing club colours is essential).
The Bonus: Wearing club kit helps other CCAC runners spot you on the road, cheer you on, and find you for finish-line photos.
Whatever you choose to wear, you must still display your ASA license on both the front and back of your shirt on race day – with the logos clearly visible.
Let’s represent CCAC with pride!
When you’re racing in your Century City club colours, there’s one informal tradition that is very special: always greet a fellow club member – whether you’re passing them or being passed. 👋
A quick “Hi Century!” / “Morning!” / or a shout-out by name can go a long way. That small gesture might be just the lift someone needs mid-race.
Let’s keep the CCAC spirit alive out there!
