Key Aspects of the ASA Constitution & Rules
Licensing: Individuals must obtain an ASA license to participate in competitions. Licenses expire on 31 December each year.
Registration: Clubs and provincial bodies must register with ASA to operate within its governance structure.
Eligibility & Domicile: Athletes must represent the province where they are domiciled (permanently reside).
Discipline: Team management is authorized to hold hearings and enforce penalties for misconduct, including immediate removal from teams for severe breaches.
Code of Conduct: The ASA Integrity Code prohibits doping, betting on competitions, and bribery.
Age Categories: Specific age requirements exist for road running, such as a minimum age of 20 for ultra-marathons and 14 for 10km races.
Clothing & Branding: Club colours are required for team prizes, and advertising on clothing must follow ASA and World Athletics rules.
