Asics Stockholm Marathon
Early bird starts in June at 86 euro and close 1 week before the race at a more expensive 110 euro.
The race take place at the beginning of June, with registration the day before. Substitution is not possible, but since you can enter almost last minute, this shouldn’t be a problem. A small expo takes place near the race venue where you are invited to a pasta party (small pasta bowl). There are very well-priced Asics t-shirts and shoes at this expo.
The course takes you through the historic Swedish capital. Strangely, the race starts at 12noon. In previous years, this has worked out brilliantly as the weather is cool and spectators fill coffee shops along the route resulting in great local support. 2018 saw unprecedented high temperatures that led to the organisers extending the cut-off (6-hours), appealing to the unfit not to run, and providing additional water points and emergency workers on route. It was extremely hot. Starting and ending in 32’ weather in the middle of a city is not optimal, but the support was superb (as was the occasional hose pipe).
The race is vibey and the course is interesting going past the city’s landmarks and taking runners through a national park on one of its many islands.
With a sliding scale entry system, the earlier you enter the cheaper it is, ranging from 60 – 85 euro. Entry includes an Asics technical tshirt, a pasta party, and an entry (if you’re lucky) to the Breakfast run, a free 4km warm up run the Saturday before race day which follows the last kilometres of the 1992 Barrcelona Olympic games.
- You might be given coffee and gherkins along the way
- Prepare for all weather types – the conditions have varied vastly year to year
- Take a moment to admire the exceptional architecture around the city
